Council of Commissioners


The members of the Council of Commissioners were elected during the school elections on November 2, 2014. The school board territory includes 9 electoral divisions. The Council is composed of 13 members which includes 1 Chairperson, 9 commissioners, 3 parent commissioners: one for the elementary level, one for the secondary level and one representative of SEAC.

The duration of the mandate of the elected commissioners is for duration of 4 years. The mandate of the parent commissioners is for a duration of two years.

Mr. Paolo Galati is the Chairperson of the Council of Commissioners.

For the 2020-2021 school year, the Council will meet on the following dates.

To be determined when the new Council takes office in November 2020.

Council meetings are held at 7:30 PM in the board room of the school board Head Office in Rosemère. These meetings are open to the public and 2 public question periods are scheduled at the beginning and end of each meeting.


Question Period & Attendance at Council Meetings

Members of the public wishing to attend a meeting of the Council of Commissioners at the Head Office of the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board must confirm their presence before noon the day of the meeting by email (jthompson@swlauriersb.qc.ca). Due to the current public health directives and safety guidelines, only six (6) members of the public can attend. They will be welcomed in a separate room where the council meeting will be displayed. Social distance measures will be applied and we ask all attendees to wear a mask while inside the building. All attendees must also disinfect their hands upon arrival and before entering the premises.

The meeting will also be broadcast online. Therefore, members of the public who wish to attend the meeting at a distance can do so on the following website: http://bit.ly/swlsbcouncil.

The rules of order for the meetings of the Council of Commissioners indicate that the agenda must provide for two 20-minute question periods, one at the beginning of the agenda and one at the end. The purpose of these question periods is restricted to answering questions only, and not to enter into debates or conversations.

For the first question period, questions are to be addressed to the Chair either by fax (450-621-7929) or by email (jthompson@swlauriersb.qc.ca) by 13h00 the day of the meeting.

The second question period is restricted to questions pertaining to agenda items discussed at the meeting.

For members of the public present at the Head Office:

  • Each speaker is allowed 5 minutes to present all their questions.
  • After each speaker's 5 minute presentation, the Chairperson will provide any available answers.

For members of the public viewing the meeting online:

  • Questions can be sent in the "Q&A Section" of the website on which the meeting is being viewed. We ask that you type your full name before all your questions. The Chair will provide any available answers during the second question period.
