In
Canada, energy consumption in buildings largely contributes to global
warming because of the greenhouse gas emissions for which it is
responsible. Efficient energy consumption helps to reduce these
emissions.
Energy efficiency and reliability of the installations are a key concern for the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board because they contribute to create a good learning environment.
A vast energy efficiency project has been carried out in several buildings of the School Board. The first phase, achieved in 2007, concerned 8 schools. A second phase is now being thought of for 12 other schools and could be carried out in 2009.
All the money invested in these projects is payed back through the annual energy savings guaranteed by the company that is reponsible for the work. This company, Ecosystem, is specialized in energy efficiency projects.
The Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board believes that school institutions have the responsibility to show the example by teaching these values to the children of today so that the adults of tomorrow will be well informed and aware of the importance of environmental issues.
Climate change will be one of the biggest challenges humanity will have to overcome within the next century.
It is essential to encourage everyone to assume more responsability.
